Candye Kane
White Trash Girl
Ruf Records

Ms. Kane is a big brassy mama whose gonna drop an “Estrogen Bomb” on you. Yes, it sounds scary but it’s just a big ol’ heap o’ fun. Her previous recordings have mainly been in the jump blues vein as is this one. A few exceptions, “White Trash Girl” and “Queen of the Wrecking Ball” sound like she might be backed up by Southern Culture On The Skids. “What Happened To The Girl,” is also a bit off the norm, sounding kinda 80’s new wavy. She covers John Sebastian’s “What A Day For A Daydream.” “Misundertood” with brushes on the skins and clarinet providing the fills could’ve been a 1920’s standard. “Mistress Carmen” kicks out a N’Awlins style piano boogie. Most of the rest is tailor made good rockin’ tonight boogie that’s bound to pack the dance floor. She’s a natural on Bullmoose Jackson’s “Big Fat Mama’s Are Back In Style.” A slew of Austin all-stars led by producer/sax player “Kaz” Kazanoff comprise the band, including Gary Primach on harp, The Texas Horns, Preston Hubbard, bass and Johnny Moeller on guitar. Candye’s pipes are always leading the way, she’s a singer who can do it all.
