Last Week
I didn't get out much last week because I was sick but I had to support Ursula Ricks playing at MaGerks in Bel Air for the first time, about ten minutes away. She had quite a few groupies who came out to see her including our BBS members Diane and Connie who danced all afternoon to Ursula then went down to dance to Leroy Thomas at the Patterson that evening!!!! This Week
Quite a few great shows. The great soulful singing of vintage R&B and blues by John Nemeth (not pictured) Wednesday at KClingers in Hanover, then more excellent vintage soul and R&B reminiscent of the old Stax Revues with Naomi Shelton & the Gospel Queens and the 9pc band of the headliner Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings (above). Watch this incredibly powerful Concert video of Sharon Jones. Sharon Jones will be at Ram's Head Live Thursday. She also has dates in DC and Pa this week.
Saturday the DCBS is sponsoring the first annual blues festivial in Silver Spring from 2-6pm with a lineup featuring Memphis Gold. It will also have the debut of the DCBS Blues Band!!
Saturday evening at the Patterson Theater in Baltimore the BBS is sponsoring the return and reunion of Big Jesse Yawn's band who had performed for many BBS sponsored events and I believe his last performance here was at the Baltimore Blues Festival at Patterson Park in 2002 where he shared the stage with Nick Moss & the Flip Tops. Our good friend Brother Henry Tate will be at this show as he will be in town this Mother's day weekend.
